Abstract
This paper investigates the effect of metasurface curvature on the gain-bandwidth behavior of millimeter-wave patch antennas. By introducing a curved metasurface superstrate, the effective phase distribution of the radiated fields is progressively modified as a function of the curvature radius, enabling controlled enhancement of antenna gain while preserving impedance bandwidth. A reference patch antenna operating band of 35-45 GHz is analyzed and compared with planar and curved superstrate configurations. Full-wave simulation results show that increasing the curvature leads to improved broadside directivity and a favorable gain-bandwidth tradeoff without the need for complex optimization procedures. The presented approach demonstrates that metasurface curvature can be effectively employed as a practical design parameter for performance enhancement in compact and conformal mmWave antenna systems.
