Abstract

A discussion presented at the 14th Saudi-Japan Joint Symposium (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia 12/5-6/2004) covers alternative routes available for meeting sulfur standards, i.e., FCC Feed Pretreatment and FCC Naphtha Post-Treatment; post-treating technologies, i.e., selective HDS, full desulfurization followed by octane recovery, and sorption; modification of the traditional Co-Mo/alumina catalyst to improve the selectivity of HDS over olefins saturation; introduction of active metal oxides or alkaline earth; introduction of HZSM-5, hydrotalcite, and TiO2 to the alumina support; and available commercial processes and trends in catalyst/process research in FCC.
