Abstract
Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) have emerged as a promising technology for improving the performance of next-generation wireless networks. RISs are capable of manipulating electromagnetic waves to optimize the wireless channel between the transmitter and receiver. In this context, the use of RISs for multi-user communication has gained significant attention as it offers high data rates and increased energy efficiency. However, the deployment of RISs in practical wireless networks requires the optimization of power consumption. This paper presents an overview of power optimization techniques for RIS-enabled multi-user communication in next-generation wireless networks. The proposed techniques aim to reduce the power consumption of the RISs while maintaining the required quality of service. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques in achieving significant power savings while improving the system's performance.
