Abstract
Laboratory bench scale activated sludge units were operated at various mean cell residence time. Synthetic media with and without phenols were used as feed solutions. A modified kinetic equations were developed and used to determine the MLSS and oxygen demand at various phenol concentrations. Operational strategies to obtain the biological oxidation of phenols are discussed.
