Abstract
The problem of an electric line source above a conducting earth is investigated. Approximations to the integrals appearing in the solution of the problem are considered. An estimate of the neglected terms is given and interpretation of their physical resemblance is presented. The analysis does not restrict the relative magnitudes of earth and air propagation constants as in previous work. It is shown that the approximation presented is legimate for far field computation and the results are comparable to those known for the quasi-static limit. These results are relevant to determining the quasi-static fields of antennas located near the earth's surface.
