Abstract
This paper is concerned with the global adaptive stabilization of a nonlinear axially moving string. The adopted model is of Kirchhoff type and with variable density. The aim is to formulate a control in case no velocity feedback is available. We show that the suggested control is able to stabilize asymptotically the system in spite of the longitudinal movement of the string. The proof is based on LaSalle's invariance principle.
