Abstract

Oligocephlate (1), a new neohopane triterpene together with β-sitosterol (2), lupeol (3), oleanolic acid (4) and β-sitosterol-3-O- β-D-glucopyranoside (5) were isolated from the n-hexane soluble fraction of the methanolic extract of the whole plant of vernonia oligocephala. The structures of these compounds (1-5) were established by using 1D NMR ( 1H and 13C) and 2D NMR (HMQC, HMBC, COSY, NOESY) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (EIMS, HREIMS). Compound 1 showed inhibitory activity against enzyme α-glucosidase with IC50 value 18.5 μM.
