Abstract
Power crisis in Pakistan needs to be addressed on urgent bases. Different researchers and policy makers have proposed different solutions to mitigate the gap between the demand and supply of power but these solutions have limitations in terms of time, structural establishment and cost effectiveness. In this perspectives for any short term solution; least finical resources and time is an essential requirement. Key statistics of Pakistani power sector are highlighted in this study; and short term solution involving distributed solar power generation by means of home solar system (HSS) is proposed. Domestic consumers are emphasized for proposed HSS because more than 40% of power is consumed by domestic consumers. For implementation of proposed solution Pakistan can follow Bangladeshi model of solar home system which has made tremendous progress in recent years. Brief highlights of Bangladeshi solar home system are also part of this paper which enable us to understand the significance of offered solution. Some policy reforms are also part this paper; which highlights that how the recommended solution can be made effective. It is predicated that if proposed solution is adopted then it is well capable of mitigating power shortage in Pakistan.
