Abstract

A new metastable phase with a tetragonal structure has been detected in a liquisol-quenched aluminum-30 at. % Mg alloy. The lattice parameters of its cell containing 24 atoms were determined to be a equals 0. 4132 nm and c equals 2. 6602 nm. This phase belongs to the space group 14//1/amd and may be regarded as prototype of HfGa//2.
