Abstract

Several approaches have been proposed to overcome the acidity and stability limitations of periodic mesoporous silica. Novel synthetic approaches were used to synthesize stable periodic mesoporous silica, and structured micro/mesoporous zeolites. Ordered mesoporous MCM-41 was obtained by mixed surfactant templating route using mixtures of cationic surfactant (CTAB) and either anionic or neutral surfactant. MCM-41 was obtained irrespective of the nature of second template. The properties of resulting MCM-41 silica were much better than those of the corresponding MCM-41 obtained using one single surfactant. These properties included better thermal and hydrothermal stability, and smaller particle size. Small pore enlargement and the effect of crystallization temperature and time were observed.
