Abstract

For the secondary treatment stage of Doha Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant, the activated sludge process was represented hy mass balance relationships for substrate and micro-organisms. The substrate utilisation rate was assumed to follow the Monod model. Kinetic coefficients were determined using steady and unsteady-state analyses. The non-linear governing equations in the unsteady-state analysis were solved using the fourth order Rung-Kutta method. The steady-state approach was observed to give better results. For the final settling tank, a performance equation was obtained for the determination of the suspended solids in the effluent.
