Abstract

The objective of this work is to apply a recently developed model of the turbulent burst phenomenon to the problem of thermal fully developed transitional turbulent internal flows. This approach has been found to provide predictions for the mean velocity profile that are in excellent agreement with published experimental data for transitional turbulent channel flow. In this approach, the actual unsteady process that occurs between the inrush and ejection phases of a burst event is modeled and predictions are obtained for the mean transport properties. In addition to obtaining predictions for the mean temperature distribution and the Nusselt number, predictions are also developed for the turbulent Prandtl number within the wall region.
