Abstract
The reflectivity of the TE0 mode in a finitely-corrugated dielectric waveguide is calculated by two independent approaches, the finite-difference time-domain and the method of lines. Reflection and transmission results obtained by the two approaches are shown to be in excellent agreement. Strong discontinuities are considered and shown to give rise to appreciable reflectivities with a small number of spatial periods.
