Abstract

We proposed a novel microseismic mechanism moment tensor inversion algorithm based on elastic wave equation and the wave superposition principle by using the amplitude variation. The proposed approach is different from moment tensor inversion based on the Green's function which is widely used in the earthquake science field. It can adapt to complicated subsurface medium due to the wavefield calculation used elastic wave equation. We used a surface monitoring field data to show the performance of the proposed algorithm. The application of seismic moment tensor refer to diffusion tensor imaging in medical imaging area has also been discussed. It introduces a deeply utility of moment tensor for anisotropic evaluation and fractures tracing.
