Abstract
The increased penetration of wind and solar PV hybrid generation system into the utility grid, draws the attention towards the deployment of the power converters and their repercussions leading to power quality (PQ) degradation. The flexible operating modes introduced in this work, enable the continuous operation of the system providing real and reactive power compensation as and when required. The distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) functionality improves the PQ during the period when the generation from the renewable energy sources (RESs) is not available or low. The M-approximated affine projection like (M-AAPL) adaptive filtering control provides the active load current component. It rejects the harmonics/noise/disturbance signals with lower misadjustments and faster convergence rate. The experimental performance addressing the realistic uncertainties associated with the RESs, such as, wind speed variability, solar insolation change, and load change as well as the non-availability of power from RERs is obtained from the laboratory prototype. Test results depict that, the system effectively improves the PQ and performance is enhanced in accordance to the IEEE-519 standard, which justifies the control schemes and its effective implementation.
