Abstract
The present research is conducted into the causes and remedies for seawater-corrosion in desalination plants where several localized corrosion along structural steels and its weldments has occurred due to their exposure to corrosive environment - seawater. An experimental program was undertaken to identify the pertinent factors which determine the corrosion behavior of stainless and structural steels and welds under desalination plant conditions. The study has revealed that high corrosion rate at welds has been promoted by the following factors which were investigated in the present study. These are: surface roughness, type of welding electrode, heat treatment, test temperature, testing media and relative velocity of the corrosive media.
