Abstract

Liquid-liquid equilibrium data for the five component system n-hexane-n-heptanetoluene-o-xylenepropylene carbonate were obtained at 25 °C. Experimental tie line data were measured by gas chromatographic analysis. The presence of n-hexane in the system seems to largely reduce the selectivity of propylene carbonate toward aromatics at ambient temperature. The UNIQUAC model was used to predict the LLE data from the corresponding ternary data. Comparison between the predictions and the experimental data are discussed.
