Abstract
A new design technique for baseband modified duobinary transmission filter is presented. The design method approximates the transmitting filter transfer function, expressed as a realizable rational function, with the modified duobinary transfer function. The approximation involves the utilization of the equidistant linear phase polynomial as part of the transfer function. The least mean square error optimization technique in addition to the Lagrange variational procedure are used in the approximation process. An optimization criterion, based on contemporary specifications, is applied. The results obtained compare well above other results published in the literature.
