Abstract

In this work agricultural plastic films (greenhouse and mulch) were exposed at different locations to study the effect of natural weather on plastics. It is concluded that the growth in carbonyl group is a direct result of UV radiation absorption. This has consequently decreased the mechanical properties and increased the crystallinity. Increased crystallinity has caused brittleness and complete failure of plastic products. It is also concluded that the mechanism of degradation reaction is independent of weather conditions; however, the rate and order of reactions are higher for more severe climatic conditions.
