Abstract

Previous studies of incompressible flow porous channels and tubes have been fairly extensive; however, the results appear to present few anomalies. In the case of porous tubes, the literature indicates that the effect of suction is dramatically different both from the effect of injection and the effect of suction in channels. There appears to be no indication that sufficiently high rates of suction will enable a stable laminar flow regime to be re-established. In the present study, a basic theory is developed for laminar flow in porous tubes at high extraction rates. Both approximate and exact solutions are derived.
