Abstract
A new type of positive displacement pump is proposed in this paper. It is a rotary pump in which pumping action is caused by the relative motion of its vanes. This motion, in turn, is generated by a driving mechanism that can be either a pair of identical elliptical gears, or a crossed parallelogram. Kinematics of such a drive and volumetric efficiency of the pump are investigated. Finally, a kinematic model of the linkage driven pump, in which segments of spur gears are used to overcome the difficulty at the dead centre positions, is presented and discussed. (A)
