Abstract

The application of Java and XML (extensible markup language) can provide dual portability of code and data in web integrated SCADA systems. Java allowed people, code portability by working on different machines and under different operating systems to download content and applications from the internet. XML, a subset of the standard generalized markup language (SGML) is a method for structuring and describing information that provides data portability. The most basic way of accessing XML information from within a Java program is through a low level application programming interface (API). The effect of XML and web enabled service technologies on the process automation field are applied in web enabling and web integration.
