Abstract

In this chapter, we look into the integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data in critical applications. We define the importance of Big Data applications within the context of IoT and discuss both the benefits and challenges they bring. The chapter thoroughly examines the architecture, security measures, communication protocols, and real-time analytic techniques that facilitate data-driven decision-making. To illustrate implementations, we present case studies from healthcare, transportation and energy, and natural disaster sectors that highlight their transformative impact. By embracing IoT and Big Data technologies, critical industries gain the ability to optimize processes and make informed decisions in time. This ultimately leads to economic outcomes.
