Abstract
We investigate the inverse problem in a rectangular plate involving recovery of the initial temperature distribution from measurements of the final temperature distribution. This problem is extremely ill-posed and it is desirable to regularize the problem to get some meaningful information. We reformulate the problem with a regularizing parameter which closely approximates and regularizes the heat conduction model.
