Abstract
Conflicting requirements of stability and non-interaction can present demanding design questions in control studies on jet engine models. It is shown that a step-by-step solution exists, at least in some cases. However, in some situations, interaction-free design is very difficult to achieve. The features of both these possibilities are illustrated with the aid of A. G. J. MacFarlane's characteristic locus.
