Abstract
The critical chloride content and the corrosion rate of steel in concrete can be measured directly using the newly developed concrete corrosion cell. This cell consists out of steel electrodes in two different concrete layers. The electric flowing between the electrodes is in proper proportion to the rate of metal removal by corrosion. About 200 corrosion cells have been produced and evaluated to date. The results show, that the critical chloride content in concrete and the corrosion rate depend considerably on the concrete composition and the microclimate and vary in wide ranges. (A)
