Abstract

A discussion on the economic and environmental importance of using local energy resources by the industrial sector covers strategies for better management of industrial energy consumption and use, e.g., cogeneration, waste heat use, and industrial integration; energy consumption in Saudi Arabia; improving energy use via government policies that give incentives to industries that are efficienct in the use of energy; leveling out power consumption and reducing peak consumption rate by enforcing a time-of-day tariff to save on initial power generation costs; partnership energy management; use of process/process heat exchangers to reduce the required heating steam in the petroleum industry; and encouraging industries to pursue energy saving policies via consumer awareness of the strategic and economic importance of energy use.
