Abstract

The solar water pumping systems (SWPS) are the most promising solutions for water problems as they can make agriculture economical and sustainable. This paper introduces an efficient, cost-effective, and simple structure single-stage standalone SWPS that incorporates the perovskite solar-cells (PSCs) and interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM). First, the proposed SWPS is selected and designed step by step. The degradation of solar cells (about 1% per year) and the temperature effects are considered within design stage. Second, an improved control strategy is introduced to achieve the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) form PV panels in addition to the best motor efficiency using field-oriented control (FOC) and maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control strategies. The degradation effects are considered within the proposed control strategy. The proposed system is built and investigated using MATLAB/Simulink environment. The results revealed the superiority of the proposed system technically and economically. The results showed that the performance and dynamics of MPPT algorithm depends mainly on dc capacitance. The proper gain design of voltage controller can minimize the variations of PV power in steady state conditions. The proposed control strategy can reach maximum power point (MPP) within a time of 1.4 sec including the starting time of motor that is totally suits SWPS.
