Abstract

State estimation is a key factor in Energy Management System (EMS). It provides secure control and operation of power system networks. The incorporation of synchronized phasor measurement units (PMUs) is becoming a reality in many modernized electric power utilities. The conventional measurements as well as the phasor measurements are vulnerable to gross errors due to communication noise, incorrect sign convention, measurement device failure.etc. This paper presents the impact of incorporating phasor measurement units (PMU's) on three different estimators: the weighted least square (WLS), the least absolute value (LAV), and the least median (LM). The performance of these estimators is studied under different set of measurements with gross errors.
