This paper describes an IBM PC based automatic solar radiation and meteorological monitoring station at Dhahran (26° 32' N, 50° 13' E), Saudi arabia. The new IBM PC based Data Acquisition System (DAS) installed at the station continuously monitors fourteen solar radiation and six meteorological parameters. The analog signals from the various sensors are also fed into a microprocessor-based Doric Digitrend Datalogger (DL) which effectively serves as a backup to the DAS. Several hardware and software strategies are adopted to ascertain quality control of the raw data. A comparison of DAS and DL data shows that the measurement differences are within acceptable limits.
