Abstract
Results of a preliminary study of the reactions of Althabasca bitumen organosulphur model compounds with water under pressure and at temperatures up to 385 degree C are presented with emphasis on the interpretation of the formation of gaseous reaction products. Both aliphatic and aromatic sulphur compounds are examined and the behavior of an extracted asphaltene is compared with that of the model sulphides.
