Abstract

Extensive research is going on for hydrate-based CO2 capture from a gas mixture. The research works are focused on finding the appropriate hydrate promoter and designing the hydrate crystallizer. This chapter includes the advancements taking place in the crystallizer design and different types of promoters. The different mechanisms and factors affecting the CO2 separation from the gas mixture are also outlined. The most important aspect of hydrate-based CO2 separation technology is its cost estimation, apart from other technical issues. The empirical formulas developed for a cost comparison of different CO2 capture technologies are also presented in this chapter. Finally, this chapter will help the reader to understand the benefits and challenges associated with hydrate-based CO2 separation technology.
