Abstract

This research presents a multi-scale loss analysis of wood frame residential structures located in Florida. In this study, we conducted two separate loss analyses. The first was loss of singular house structure. Based on different components capacities, we developed three different house models named the weak (houses built before hurricane Andrew), the average (current houses with roof subjected to roof uplift), and the strong (built from the strongest possible components). The second analysis covers three modules: the hazard module that utilizes wind occurrence in the region, the vulnerability module that uses developed vulnerability functions, and the financial module that quantifies different loss characteristics. The results of this paper may help homeowners make mitigation decisions. Moreover, regional analysis can help identify parts of Florida that are most subjected to hurricane loss.
