Abstract
A new scheme is tried to tackle the problems of controlling oxygen excess ratio and PEM fuel cell system output voltage stabilization. The oxygen excess ratio is controlled in the inner control loop through PID controller while the regulation of output voltage is being treated in the outer loop using super twisting algorithm of HOSM (higher order sliding mode) control. The control is applied on the nonlinear model of the PEM fuel cell system. In this scheme, the simulation results show that HOSM control provides robust performance as well as minimizes the fuel consumption. The proposed control scheme is therefore can be a step forward to make the fuel cell technology inexpensive with optimal robust performance.
