Abstract
This study presents a highly miniaturized multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) antenna developed for implantable leadless pacemaker applications. By employing a meandered circular patch, the antenna achieves a compact volume of 4.52 mm3. The proposed MIMO configuration consists of two radiating patches sharing a common ground separated by 0.4 mm, each operating in three bands centered at 1.2, 1.8, and 2.45 GHz. The corresponding realized gains are -38.8, -36.1, and -26.1 dBi, respectively. The antenna exhibits a quasiomnidirectional radiation pattern across all operating bands, with isolation levels of 28.5, 25.5, and 21 dB. The isolation performance is further enhanced through the integration of shorting pins. Moreover, the specific absorption rate (SAR) is evaluated using a human-tissue model, confirming compliance with biomedical safety standards. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed antenna achieves an excellent trade-off between miniaturization, multiband operation, and electromagnetic safety, making it a promising candidate for next-generation implantable medical devices.
