Abstract

This paper introduces a new generic design perspective to boost the gain and provide symmetric radiation characteristics of electric or magnetic current elements. The symmetric radiation characteristic is similar to a magneto-electric dipole, but with higher gain and narrower bandwidth. The antenna is realized by an excited wide slot surrounded by a rectangular dielectric ring. The antenna achieves 11.5-dBi gain and 13% relative matching bandwidth centered at 60 GHz.
