Abstract

GSM (Global system for mobile communications)-based wireless home appliances monitoring and control system was discussed. The design of a stand-alone embedded system that can monitor and control home appliances locally using built-in input and output peripherals was presented. The system has two parts, namely; hardware and software. Remotely, the system allows the homeowner to monitor and control his home appliances via his mobile phone set by sending commands in the form of SMS messages and receiving the appliances status as well.
