Abstract
A refined grain structure and a more homogeneous composition would be desirable at certain locations of the surface. This could be achieved by laser melting up to a necessary depth. Present study investigates the grain refining of EN58B steel surfaces by Nd: YAG laser beam. It is found that formation of refined dendritic structure with uniform dispersion of fine inclusions and intermetallic compounds is possible.
