Abstract

Air pollution is a major issue facing the world nowadays. Many human activities and several industries have contributed to this problem. Oil refinery is an example of that and different air emissions are emitted. Examples of these emissions are; SO2, NOx and CO. Various studies have been conducted for air pollution control from previous decades, but no researches were extended about selecting air emissions control methods for oil refinery units considering, simultaneously, cost and efficiency of the control options. The aim of this study is to determine suitable control technique for oil refinery with two objective functions including minimization of cost and air emissions according to environmental standards. Genetic Algorithm approach is used to select an optimal control technology for each air emissions considered. The model is applied into a case study to show its application.
