Abstract
A description is given of a placement procedure used by register-transfer-level-based design automation (DA) systems in which layouts of complex digital systems can be produced automatically from their models in UAHPL (universal hardware programming language). Several circuits, ranging from a four-bit multiplier to an AMD 2911-type microprogram controller, have been designed. For all examples, silicon space utilization of greater than 60% has been achieved.
