Abstract
The theory of continuous distributions of disclinations (i. e. , rotation dislocations) in non-linear elastic solids is derived. It is shown that the spatial strain tensor and the coefficients of connection are well defined state quantities, and the relationships between these quantities and the densities of dislocations and disclinations are obtained. For a linear elastic material, an expression is given for the stresses produced in an infinite medium by an arbitrary distribution of these two kinds of defects.
