Abstract
The science and engineering sciences are viewed as the basis of fluid-power engineering activities. Fluid-power engineering function and fluid-power problems are related to decision making. Teaching of design and its difficulties are illuminated. Reasons for research emphasis and correlations between science and design are discussed. Aims of fluid-power design courses, principles, and instruction through projects, and evaluation of educational objectives are given. A feed-back control system model for fluid-power projects is constructed that weighs design factors and management procedures of fluid-power projects. Correlations between research-design and theory-design are considered and recognized as mutually suppiementary activities upon which fundamental education in fluid-power must rest. The future of fluid-power education is seen in strengthening simultaneously all aspects of design, including analysis and research, but adhering to the current need of the fluid-power industry. (A)
