Abstract

This paper is concerned with the analysis of a long thick walled concrete cylinder subjected to an internal pressure based on the hypothesis that concrete may be viewed as a micropolar material. The problem considered is a state of plane strain and use is made of a stiffness matrix for triangular elements formulated earlier by Baluch and his co-workers for micropolar materials in a state of plane strain. Use is made of the application of the micropolar theory in the form of a finite element approach.
