Abstract
As electricity increasingly becomes a vital element for many industries, power system equipment reliability is inherently crucial for the success of those industries. Therefore, it is becoming a standard practice to evaluate the cost of reliability and the cost of the losses associated with power system outages during the power system network designing decision making process in order to ensure a reliable and continued power supply to customers. In this paper, a typical power distribution plant is selected to conduct a formal reliability study to identify the present reliability indices of the system and the financial risk associated with the current reliability of the system. Afterwards, network modification options are proposed to enhance the reliability of the system. After evaluation of different modification proposals, the paper concluded that the optimal modification, in terms of reliability and financial performance, is the addition of an existing redundant overhead distribution feeder with ratings of 13.8 KV.
