Abstract

Polymeric-inorganic polypyrrole coated titanium dioxide nanocomposite photo-catalyst were synthesized by simple in-situ polymerization approach. The morphological and optical characterizations of TiO2 and polypyrrole coated titanium dioxide nanocomposite photo-catalyst were carried out using FE-SEM, EDX, elemental mapping analysis, FT-IR and UV-DRS. The optical properties of the nanocomposite photo-catalyst were also investigated. Diffused reflectance spectroscopy revealed a strong absorption edge in the visible region for the polypyrrole coated titanium dioxide nanocomposite photo-catalyst (2.8 eV) as compared to pure titanium dioxide (3.2 eV) that lacked any significant absorption in the visible spectral region.
