Abstract

A comparison of various additives used to increase proppant strength and maintain its conductivity following the treatment was presented. Proppant strength and conductivity of resin coated proppant by itself and in combination with other additives were determined. Parameters, compressive strength, and proppant conductivity should be considered in selecting the best additive used for proppant flowback control. On-the-fly resin coating process was the best technique to consider for proppant flowback control, considering the strength development and proppant pack permeability. The application of this process in the field confirmed laboratory findings, as it showed an increase in gas production of the treated well, compared with the offset wells treated with other additives.
