Abstract

Recent experiments showed that the volume of releasing hydrocarbons is primarily controlled by a series of parameters, such as organic matter maturity, its nature and distribution in the rock volume, as well as the rocks composition and structure. The main scope of the study is to understand the process of pore space formation, by simulation of physical processes. The modelling of natural and experimental cracking mechanism in rocks could reveal the distinctions in different approaches as well as to make a prediction of potential cracking in oil shales.
