Abstract

This chapter presents a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in epoxy/block copolymer blend nanocomposites, with particular emphasis on their thermal performance and structural applications in heat exchangers. Incorporation of block copolymers leads to the formation of nanostructures through self-assembly or reaction-induced microphase separation, enhancing interfacial bonding and facilitating thermal energy dissipation. The synergistic inclusion of thermally conductive nanofillers such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, and boron nitride results in notable improvements in thermal conductivity, fracture toughness, and glass transition temperature. These enhancements are closely linked to filler morphology, interfacial compatibility, and processing methods. Advanced experimental techniques alongside numerical approaches such as finite element analysis and molecular dynamics simulations are discussed for evaluating and predicting the composites’ thermal and mechanical behavior. Furthermore, key processing challenges, including nanofiller dispersion and matrix compatibility, are addressed with strategies such as high shear mixing and surface functionalization highlighted to overcome these limitations. Case studies are introduced to demonstrate practical implementations across automotive, aerospace, and electronic cooling applications. Overall, the chapter underscores the potential of epoxy/block copolymer nanocomposites as lightweight, durable, and energy-efficient materials for advanced thermal management systems.
