Abstract
This research aims to examine the impact of laser power and scanning speed on channel depth and profile using a high-power 100 W CO2 laser machine in continuous mode. The work is carried out in two stages. The first stage maintains a 50 W fixed power while varying the speed from 25 to 200 mm/s. and channel profiles are created. In the second stage, 50 mm/s laser scanning speed is kept constant while power is varied from 30 W to 60 W, and channel profile is created. An analytical model is developed considering the three-dimensional coordinate effect and concept of energy balance along with the energy of conduction. The proposed model is validated through experimental work. Finally developed analytical model is compared with the models available in the literature. The highest prediction error was found to be 1.68%, while, for constant 50 W power and 25–200 mm/s of speed, the average prediction error was determined to be 1.18%. As a result, the proposed model closely matches the experimental findings, and the proposed model can be used to estimate channel profile.
