Abstract
Gene-editing technology is of significant interest to target a particular area in the genome via adding or deleting a specific gene segment, which has changed the period of basic and applied biomedical research. Currently, five gene editing techniques are present: ZFN, TALEN, CRISPR-Cas9, the latest developed Base Editors and Prime Editors. CRISPR-Cas9 acts as a catalyst in the field of gene engineering; CRISPR-Cas9 comes out as a novel therapeutic method due to its extraordinary efficiency compared to traditional gene-editing tools, ease of use, and low cost. This chapter will go over the background information of the genome editing field, such as the working principle of the protein-guided techniques, ZFN, TALEN, RNA-guided techniques CRISPR-Cas9, and how CRISPR-Cas9 revolutionized the fields of biological sciences and, later on, how Base Editors and Primer editors have been developed. Lastly, we will deliberate how the latest developed gene editing technologies transform agriculture.
